Yaesu's patented ATAS™ Active Tuning Antenna System has been enhanced, with the latest model ATAS-120A. This is a unique mobile antenna that provides HF, VHF and UHF coverage with automatic motorized tuning. Designed for use with Yaesu transceivers that support ATAS, microprocessor control signals are sent on the coaxial cable to adjust the antenna radiator length for best SWR. Yaesu ATAS-120A Active Tuning Antennas cover the 7, 14, 21, 28, 50, 144 and 430 MHz Amateur bands and are compatible with the Yaesu FT-857D, FT-897D and the FT-450D. They typically attach to the vehicle hatch or trunk lip UHF mount (not supplied), also available from DX Engineering. They can be adapted to portable operation with the appropriate mount and counterpoise.

As with any HF, VHF and UHF mobile antenna system, performance of this antenna system depends upon the grounding of the mount and bonding to the metal vehicle surfaces to create an optimal ground plane. Portable operation of the ATAS-120A is possible with the appropriate counterpoise. Portable VHF and UHF operation is made possible with the addition of the optional Yaesu ATBK-100 Antenna Base Kit, accessory coil-loaded radials. This kit is not required, nor should it be used for mobile operation.
